![]() ![]() The game-board comes in two halves, so this was really easy. Step 5: Attach the new game-board to the purchased board. Instead I managed to track down game tokens online from other Harry Potter board games (Sorting Hat, Hedwig, Golden Snitch, Hogwarts Express, Buckbeak, The Durmstrang Ship, Fawkes the Phoenix and the Knight Bus) #winning! A number of blogs suggest creating horcruxes as tokens (but that was going to take too long to DIY and purchase), and others use character cut-outs. Step 4: Not necessary, but I chose to get Harry Potter game tokens to add to the overall impact of the game. Again, a lot of people online have DIY’d their own houses and hotels (or castles), but I think the new colours work just fine. I think they really suit the fit of the game. Step 3: Rather than keep the standard green & red houses and hotels, I spray painted these silver and gold. You could also use house points to remove the need to money altogether! My intention was for these to replace the $1 and $5 notes, but you could assign any value to these that you’d like. I have seen a number of posts where people have chosen to print their own money as well, but I stuck with the standard monopoly money, with the fun addition of some gold and silver coins for added effect. Step 2: Print the game-board, box cover, community chest & chance cards (or spells & potions as they are renamed in this version) and title deed cards. ![]() I was limited for time so got one for $20…they even had a $10 version called ‘My Monopoly’ that actually allows you to create your own version of Monopoly #genius. Thrift stores are great for this if you have time to hunt around. Step 1: Purchase a cheap monopoly game (as you will use pretty much everything from the standard game for your DIY version). While there are many versions available out there (I now have 3 game-board and card templates saved to my computer), I found this version to be the simplest to work with, and I liked the game-board design the most.įrom there, it was simply a matter of putting everything together. The one request from the author of the post is that you don’t sell the items (pretty generous if you ask me). My saving grace was from a blog I came across a few years ago now, which included how-to instructions, as well as a link to all the printable files that would be required to re-create this masterpiece. Simply google ‘Harry Potter Monopoly’ and you will see exactly what I mean! Fortunately there are many clever people out there who have done the hard yards for this, so the task at hand wasn’t too complicated for me. She is a HUGE fan, and since I first spotted this idea online, I knew at some point I needed to get into the DIY mood and make this for her. For Christmas this year, I embarked on the creative task of making a Harry Potter version of Monopoly for my sister. ![]()
